Design Studio&#8217;s case study.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OH! Design Studio launched<strong> redesigned website<\/strong> of Spacio, a real estate consultancy firm in India.<\/p>\n<p>When this <strong>client approached us\u00a0for website redesign and online marketing<\/strong>, their previous website was just over a year old. But the client had realized that the old brand just didn\u2019t fit anymore \u2013first signal that this website redesign was primarily for branding, not just for aesthetics makeover.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like to share some aspects of website (re)design process for the purpose of brand building, which I think helped\u00a0our <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ohdesignstudio.com\">creative\u00a0agency<\/a><\/span>\u00a0bring out the brand character of Spacio on its new website.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. Brand Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Spacio did not approach OH! Design Studio for branding but for website design and digital marketing, yet we walked them through a brand process to find answers to questions like<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who are they?<\/li>\n<li>What do they do?<\/li>\n<li>For whom do they exist?<\/li>\n<li>What is it that makes them different in Mumbai\u2019s cluttered real estate market?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There were many one-on-one conversations and group <strong>brainstorming<\/strong> sessions with key stakeholders in client\u2019s office. We developed <strong>buyer<\/strong> <strong>persona<\/strong> to better understand their target market and customer profile.<\/p>\n<p>It did take <strong>time and patience<\/strong>, but <strong>an investment worth making<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>How brand strategy improves website design process?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Easier decision making throughout the design process about site look and feel, content, navigation, types of images, etc. When in doubt, simply ask yourself if this element will support the intended brand image or would go against it.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>2. Website Redesign Objective<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When companies take up the task of redesigning their website, it\u2019s always interesting to hear out their list of why they want a new interface. \u201cDependency on technical team to update content\u201d, \u201cdull \/ unprofessional look and feel\u201d &amp; \u201cdifficult to find information\u201d are some very commonly described website challenges that I come across.<\/p>\n<p>We reframed our question and asked our client:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat brand perception do you want to create in your prospective customer\u2019s mind through this website and what action do you want her to take on the site?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Spacio, if we had started with UI design right away, we would have probably ended up making it look like a typical property listing website, which was not in sync with the site objectives.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Why looking at the bigger picture helps when defining website objectives?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Website is a crucial marketing tool for every for profit and not-for profit organization. Website objective must align with the business objectives.<\/em><em>To measure the success of a website (criteria of which includes visual design, UX, etc) is different from setting website objectives.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>3. Competitor Analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We also looked outside client\u2019s business \u2013 at its competition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One interesting outcome was that competitors who were commonly referred to by our client during initial discussions were not even their competitors. Benchmarks were corrected.<\/li>\n<li>We spotted opportunities to gain strategic advantage on new website.<\/li>\n<li>This exercise also aided us in keyword research for search engine optimization of this website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>How competitor analysis is useful for website design?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It helps design team spot weaknesses in your competitor\u2019s website. Those mistakes can be avoided in new design. It also helps identify what worked well for others. And always a new perspective.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>4. Content Strategy\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">We took into consideration Spacio\u2019s business goals, content requirement of their site\u2019s target audience, and audited existing website\u2019s content. Our team prepared a comprehensive plan for the new website and future content- clearly associating the purpose to each content.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Why is content strategy important?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Your customers or potential customers are looking for content. If you don\u2019t understand what they need, where they need it or when they need it, it could be a lost opportunity. Web content is not just in the form of company or product information. It could be an answer to a question, solution to a problem or pure entertainment.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Recommended for you:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/ohdesignstudio.com\/blog\/ui-design-doesnt-start-graphic-design-content-strategy\/\">Example of how website content strategy can impact brand perception<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>5. Information Architecture<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For each type of user on Spacio\u2019s website, we then identified different flows through the site and what information had to be presented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0As a result, what we got was<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sitemap<\/li>\n<li>Page Hierarchies<\/li>\n<li>Navigation<\/li>\n<li>Content Categories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We drew a similar diagram of their old site with relationship between screens to take a stock of what we already have.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Why is information architecture important?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Information Architecture (IA) helps us organize website content and <a href=\"https:\/\/share.google\/5Vb7ghviSPdOqgLTh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">map<\/a> relationship between different screens.<\/em><em>It gives us a high-level overview of the site\u2019s components.
